Clubs and Activities

Spanish Club

It is a great pleasure to announce that Spanish Immersion is offering the opportunity for our students to participate in the Spanish Club. The Spanish Club is a program for students in grades 3 to 8. It is structured to give the students an opportunity to improve their Spanish language skills as well as learn a lot of new and interesting things about Spain and Spanish speaking countries; its culture and traditions, make new friends and have fun while they are learning.

We will offer:

  • Traditional Spanish games

  • Spanish arts and crafts

  • Spanish cartoons and movies

  • Spanish dances and songs

Spanish Club will be held at the Baltimore International Academy on Wednesdays from 3:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. Positive academic achievement and behavior must be maintained in order to remain a member of the Spanish Club. If a student has unsatisfactory grades and/or is misbehaving during the club time, the child looses the opportunity to participate in this activity permanently.

Remember....It is important that your child:

  • Is picked up on-time (Exactly at 4:00pm) Chronic lateness will result in the removal from the program.

  • Attend regularly (2 or more absences in one month will be grounds for removal from the program)

  • Maintains a respectful and positive attitude towards teachers and peers

  • Maintains appropriate behavior during school and after school (misbehavior and disruption are grounds for removal from the program)

  • Maintains positive academic achievement (unsatisfactory grades are grounds for removal from the program)

    THE VEX IQ ROBOTICS TEAM

The VEX IQ Challenge serves as a great introduction to engineering and computer sciences for elementary and middle school students. Students compete yearly to solve an engineering challenge presented in the form of a game. Competing in the VEX IQ challenge allows our students to continue their passion for STEM outside of the classroom and have fun competing against students from other schools.

BIA has competed in the VEX IQ challenge for four years. We are a dedicated and passionate group of students, coaches, and parents that work to achieve great things as a team. Our team has been awarded the Excellence Award at the Hopkins Robotics Cup (Baltimore City Championship) four years in a row.

The VEX Robotics Design System offers students an exciting platform for learning about areas rich with career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These are just a few of the many fields students can explore by creating with VEX Robotics technology. Beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project encourages teamwork, leadership and problem solving among groups.

Students who have the opportunity to join the Robotics club learn more about designing, building and programming robots. In addition, they will be given the opportunity to make it onto one of the BIA VEX IQ teams.

The program will accept students in grade 3-8 who meet the following criteria:

·       Ability to attend meetings on scheduled days

·       Strong problem solving skills and ability to follow instructions

·       Teachers recommendation

·       Parent Approval/Permission
